Mustangs Perform well at Home Meet

Saturday, February 16 2013 - Downers Grove South vs Nequa Valley & Sandburg

The Mustang distance runners took to the track against perennial distance powerhouses Neuqua Valley and Sandburg last night.  The meet itself was unscored, but that did not stop many DGS athletes from posting quality performances on our wonderful 160m track with it's fantastic sharp turns and state of the art straightaways on the "turns"!

The Frosh/Soph 3200 was again a highlight for us as we had 3 outstanding performances.  Joey Eterno placed 2nd in a time of 10:38.  This is the fastest indoor 3200 time posted by a Freshman in the last 6 years and only 9 seconds off the fastest overall posted by Harry Miles ('12 grad and UW-Platteville runner).  Also with huge PRs were Josh Realubit and Austin Rutkowski who each dropped over 20 seconds off their previous bests with times of 11:04 and 11:06 respectively.

Ryan Strelau ran a solid leg on the 4x800 relay posting a 2:24 split after a week of being out sick.  He came back later in the meet to win the 600m.

In the 800, Matt Wiechec and Luis Marquez ran new personal bests of 2:28 and 2:30.  At the varsity level, Chris Mendez placed 2nd in a time of 2:13, while Grant Johnson set a new personal best of 2:38.1.

In the varsity 600, Ross Netzel and Jason Shaughnessy went 1-2, both posting personal best times of 1:34 and 1:38.

Marquez doubled back to run a best in the 1600 along with Trevor Smith who broke 6 min. for the first time in 5:52.

Jacob Amiri ran an indoor best to defeat a quality field in the varsity 1600.

The Mustangs head to Proviso West next Saturday for the aptly named "Proviso West Invitational".
